connecting Japan and the US through research, teaching, and translation

I aim to create a more sustainable world through bridging my roots in Japan and the US. I'm inspired by the places I've called home: first the Great Plains of Oklahoma where I grew up, then the social justice movements of Twin Cities, and local food economies of the Upper Midwest. Most recently, I spent four years immersed the agriculture and food traditions of Ishikawa, Japan, a region where generations of my ancestors have lived. I currently study Japanese environmentalism, satoyama (Japanese rural landscapes), and environmental policy at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
